SATYASHREE GANDHAM

Satyashree Gandham is a compulsive experimentalist. She has made professions out of most of her experiments in life. She has a career in software, filmmaking, journalism, coaching, and sourdough baking. She has also dabbled in philosophy, which has now taken the form of thought experiments – bringing people together to share their philosophies through structured yet informal conversations.

Thought Experiments are laid-back conversations with a free flow of ideas and opinions focussed on a philosophical subject. Thought Experiments in Pubs (TEiP) was started by Bonny Astor in London. In collaboration with TEiP, Satyashree has created an India chapter in Goa as Thought Experiments in Cafes (TEiC). It is a forum where people from different backgrounds meet and network through creative, intellectual and philosophical discussions. In the process, stimulating relationships are engendered between individuals as thinking people, bringing into play their understanding of life, their opinions and biases and beliefs, and with a willingness and openness to those of others. Everyone is welcome because the more perspectives, the richer the conversation.

Proposed topics for the evening:

1. The Telepathic Network

Imagine a future where a telepathic network exists, allowing individuals to communicate their thoughts and emotions with others directly. This network connects everyone in a global community, enabling profound understanding and empathy. How would this technology impact human connection and community dynamics? Would it lead to a deeper sense of unity and cooperation, or could it also bring about challenges, such as privacy concerns and the loss of individuality?

2. The Life-Path Predictor:

A machine can predict the course of your life with 100% accuracy, showing you your future successes and failures, relationships, and experiences.

QUESTION: Would you want to know your future, and why or why not? How would this knowledge affect your choices and motivation in life?

3) The Infinite Library

Imagine a library containing every possible book that could be written with a given set of characters. Somewhere within this library is the story of your life, but it is surrounded by countless false stories.

QUESTION: How would you find the truth, and what does this say about the nature of knowledge and information?

CARLOS  GONSALVES

Carlos Gonsalves, from the little hilly town of Mapusa, in Goa, has drummed his way into recognition as one of the premier percussionists in the region. A humble, soft-spoken percussionist, Carlos lets his drums do the talking. Hence the name of the news article published in a local Goan newspaper three years ago led to the title of his percussion-filled DVD and his motto from then on – Talking Drums. Not just a vague statement but a statement of intent.

After jamming with some of the best musicians in Goa and India, even ‘busking’ in Ireland, Carlos is all set to move onto bigger platforms. His music, sound, and feel are derived from his experiences, inspirations and life. All of that is unravelled when you watch him play and listen to him gently and sometimes slap his drums into life with pure passion.

Carlos Gonsalves has been interviewed on TV, Radio and numerous times in print. He has also held many workshops in Goa at various educational institutions, encouraging young aspirants to seek their path of musical enlightenment. One of the highlights of his career was when he was part of the Tata Indicom ad campaign with Ajay Devgan and Kajol.

He’s constantly plugged into his favourite music, ranging from well-known Indian acts like Sivamani and Trilok Gurtu to Steve Gadd, Alex Acuna and Gregg Bissonette. And while he does moonlight in Goa with various bands – rock, jazz and blues – as a drummer, his set-up is a solo effort, just Carlos and his talking drums.

Carlos will take the audience through an experiential drumming session.
