Every year, Earth Day arrives like a mirror. It asks us to look at what we have taken for granted — shaded walks, clean water, living coastlines — and to notice what is quietly disappearing.

At PechaKucha Goa, we return to Earth Day because creativity is not only about making beautiful things. It is also about keeping the places that make us — our rivers, fields, forests, dunes, and neighbourhood commons — alive.

In Goa, this feels personal.

Our biodiversity is both breathtaking and fragile. Mangroves that hold the coastline together. Hills that cool the villages. Wetlands that feed birds and fish. Old trees that make the afternoon bearable. But rapid, unplanned development and the culture of everyday convenience are leaving marks we cannot ignore: more heat, more flooding, lost habitat, and waste that never quite goes away.

This year’s theme is COUNTDOWN.

Not a clock on a wall — a countdown we can feel: hotter summers, shorter seasons, weaker shade, stressed shorelines.

COUNTDOWN is not a night of doom. It is a night of action, repair, and real stories — the kind that begin in backyards and workshops, on boats and in markets, in labs, schools, studios, and community meetings.
